The Sunset Music and Education Foundation goes beyond entertainment—we create experiences that inspire, empower, and transform. With a deep commitment to inclusivity, our performances celebrate the vibrant diversity of voices in music and comedy, showcasing talent that reflects the richness of our shared humanity.

But the magic doesn’t stop on stage. Our events honor the women musicians and artists who have shaped the industry—many of whom have gone overlooked—while paving the way for the next generation of creators. By shining a light on these trailblazers, we ensure their legacies are not forgotten and their contributions continue to inspire.

At the heart of it all is the Sunset Music SMARTS Initiative, providing young people with the tools, instruments, and opportunities to turn their musical dreams into reality.

Why This Matters

​

• 30% of students in our region live below the poverty line, limiting their access to arts education and extracurricular activities.

• Many school music programs in our valley do not allow students to take instruments home, making it nearly impossible for them to practice outside of school hours. We want to change that. The SMARTS Initiative ensures that students not only have access to instruments in the classroom but also have their own to practice at home, fostering deeper engagement and skill development.

• Music education enhances academic performance—students who study music score 20% higher in science and language arts and develop stronger critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Music fosters social and emotional growth, improving communication, focus, discipline, and teamwork—key skills that benefit students in all aspects of life.

• Students involved in music are more likely to graduate and pursue higher education, as participation in the arts has been linked to increased college enrollment and scholarship opportunities.

 

By providing instruments, scholarships, and mentorship programs, we are breaking down financial barriers and ensuring that every child—regardless of economic background—has the opportunity to experience the lifelong benefits of music. Through strong partnerships with local schools and organizations like PSUSD and the Academy of Music Performance (AMP), we ensure that young artists have access to the tools, resources, and support they need to thrive. We hope that our Coachella Valley model can ultimately be used on a national level.
